Environmental impact minimal as cargo ship sinks off central Vietnam

A big cargo ship carrying 1,500 tons of fly ash sank on March 14 night off the Mui Ne coast of the central province of Binh Thuan, but the seven people on board were saved and the risks of an oil spill and fly ash spreading from the ship are small.

Deputies at the 14th National Assembly debated a number of contents of the draft revised Law on Environmental Protection, including the classification of projects basing on impact to the environment, the authority of environmental effect assessment, and the issuance of licence for waste release.
