Quang Ngai calls for more assistance to curb coastal erosion
The People’s Committee of central Quang Ngai province has sought 233 billion VND (10 million USD) from the Government for undertaking urgent works to prevent coastal erosion.
Residents living along a river in Can Tho City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta had to rush out of their houses on April 6 as erosion sank into the river bank, sweeping away the street at their front yards.
Ho Chi Minh City will undertake 14 projects to prevent erosion, including dredging of vulnerable waterways, at a cost of over VND1.7 trillion (US$75 million) this year, according to its Inland Waterway Management Division.
Erosion is eating into the beach in Lang Co Bay, one of the world’s most beautiful bays, in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
