France pledged to support the early ratification of the EU – Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), advocate for the European Commission to lift its "yellow card" warning on Vietnamese seafood.

Vietnam is striving to prevent, reduce and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in an effort to remove the European Commission (EC)’s ‘yellow card’ warning as part of a scheme on IUU fishing prevention and control by 2025.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception for visiting Executive Vice President of the European Commission (EC) Frans Timmermans in Hanoi on February 18.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has taken synchronous measures in order to remove the European Commission (EC)’s “yellow card” warning against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Vietnam next year.

The country has been strongly advised to redouble efforts to put an end to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in a bid to have the European Commission (EC)’s ‘yellow card’ removed, thereby boosting aquatic exports to the EU market, according to industry insiders.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the southern province of Kien Giang has announced the list of 25 fishing vessels and owners violating the efforts to fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU) as required by the European Commission. 

The US-China trade war will force agricultural products from the world’s two most powerful economies to seek new markets which could lead to a flood of cheap products coming into Vietnam, putting considerable pressure on domestic farm produce.

The fishery sector of central Binh Dinh province has employed solutions to prevent local fishermen from violating waters of regional countries, helping deal with the “yellow card” issued by the European Commission (EC), a provincial official has said. 

Vietnam’s seafood has doubled great efforts to encourage the European Commission (EC) to withdraw its ‘yellow card’ warning and focused on developing a sustainable seafood industry for the future.

The European Commission (EC) and the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on February 27 publicised a component on the EU’s technical assistance to Vietnam’s energy sector.
