Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 13 stressed the need to ease difficulties and remove obstacles, especially in terms of market, institutions, and credit capital, for the production, processing and export of forest and aquatic products.
The export of Vietnamese forestry products during the seven months of the year soared by 55% to US$10.25 billion, according to data from the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Export revenues of agro-forestry-fishery products in April is estimated to hit 3.5 billion USD, pushing the figure in the first four months of this year to 12.4 billion USD, equivalent to the figure recorded in the same period last year, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Export revenue of forestry products between January and September is estimated to surge 14% year on year to US$6.64 billion, accounting for 23% of Vietnam’s total agro-forestry-fishery shipments.
The forestry sector will work to increase its average production value to between 5.5% and 6% a year, forest coverage rate to 42 percent, and export value to at least US$8 billion annually from now to 2020.
The forestry sector will protect, develop and sustainably use existing forest areas and land fund for forest development with a view to raising the country’s forest coverage to 47.25% in 2017.
