As Vietnam is on the threshold of a new era of development and striving to become a developed and high-income country by 2045, President Luong Cuong voiced his hope that France – a traditional friend – will continue to be present on Vietnam’s path to prosperity and civility.

The elevation of Vietnam-France ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership provides opportunities for deeper cooperation between France and Vietnam, and between ASEAN and the EU.

France will accompany and assist Vietnam in implementing the Political Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) of which both are members.

Vietnam attaches importance to and gives high priority to strengthening its strategic partnership with France, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong told French President Emmanuel Macron during their phone talks on October 20.

 The leaders of Germany and France meet on Thursday to try to work out a common position on reforming the euro zone, a sensitive issue that is testing the new government in Berlin just a month after it took office.

The new law gives French police permanent powers to shutter places of worship and conduct on-the-spot identity checks. Critics have decried the measure for its restriction of civil liberties and for targeting minorities.
