The Vietnamese Government will continue to support and solidify legal regulations on cashless payment systems, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue told Anthony Tan, CEO and co-founder of Grab – a ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia which has been popular in Vietnam over the past five years.
The competition authority in Vietnam have yet to make the next moves over a transaction in which Grab acquired Uber Technologies Inc’s Southeast Asian business after asking Grab to report details of the deal.
Uber and Grab are in a fair competition with traditional taxis, so they operate within the confines of existing laws, said a representative from the Ministry of Transport following the Hanoi Taxis Association proposal to stop the pilot operation of the services.
