Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 10 asked ministries, agencies, and localities to prepare plans to exploit the new development space created by major highways and roads when he chaired a meeting of the State steering committee for national key transport projects.

The northeastern coastal province of Quang Ninh has completed land clearance for the construction of Van Don – Mong Cai highway, a local official has said.

Leaders of six provinces recently sat down with relevant ministers to talk about the construction of a coastal highway route, the detailed plan for which was approved in 2010.

A number of highways have been opened for public use recently, benefiting the country’s socio-economic development. But ensuring traffic safety along these roads is difficult due to drivers’ low level of awareness and slack infrastructure management, transport experts say.
