The development came days after the Saudi prosecutor-general acknowledged that the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, had been plotted in advance. Riyadh maintains that the assassination was a rogue operation, and has nothing to do with the royal family.
Earlier in the day, the Hurriyet newspaper reported that Saudi Arabia's top prosecutor, Saud Al Mojeb, refused to inform the Turkish counterparts of the whereabouts of the body of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Turkish police searched sewage network at an Istanbul street where the Saudi consulate is located in the probe into the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, local media reported.
This comes a day after Riyadh's statement that Khashoggi was killed during "a rogue operation" by individuals operating outside the scope of their authority, who tried to cover up his death.
