President of India Ram Nath Kovind has sent congratulatory messages to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on his October 23 election as the State President of Vietnam for the remainder of the 2016-2021 tenure.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Nguyen Phu Trong was elected as President for the 2016-2021 tenure at a plenum of the 14th National Assembly’s sixth session in Hanoi on October 23.

Deputies of the 14th National Assembly on October 23 elected Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as the State President during their on-going sixth session in Hanoi.
