Thailand on May 27 held a ceremonial 21-gun salute at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok to welcome General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam, his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation at the start of their official visit to the kingdom.

After the incense-offering ceremony, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam visited the simple thatched house preserving memories of President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities in Thailand during 1928–1929.

PSNews - General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, accompanied by a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will pay an official visit to Thailand from May 27–29, 2026, at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his spouse. According to Thai media, the visit carries significance beyond traditional diplomacy and is expected to provide a fresh momentum for the two sides to elevate bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors, as well as to strengthen their coordination to respond to fluctuations in the regional and global situations.

President Ho Chi Minh arrived in Thailand in 1928 while Vietnam was still under French colonial rule. During his time in Udon Thani, he reportedly lived among the local Vietnamese community while organising political activities and seeking support for Vietnam’s independence movement.

General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will pay an official visit to Thailand from May 27-29. On this occasion, the Thai Ambassador to Vietnam, Urawadee Sriphiromya, gave an interview to Vietnamese media about the significance of the visit and the highlights of bilateral relations in recent times.
