The hosting of the recent 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) between May 12 and May 23 can be viewed as a golden chance for the local tourism industry to recover after months of little activity due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam welcomed 6.2 million foreign visitors in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 30.2%, and served 40 million domestic tourists, earning a total of VND262 trillion (US$11.5 billion) in revenue.
The Government of Viet Nam continues to stress tourism’s key role in the country’s socio-economic development, and it hopes that sports and athletics will help play a big part in doubling the tourism industry’s future growth.
