Deputy Minister of Public Security Lt. Gen. Luong Tam Quang delivered a keynote speech at the seminar themed "Safeguarding security and social order in new urban areas and apartment buildings in Hanoi" hosted by the Hanoi Municipal Police Department, the People's Security Academy, the People's Police Academy, and the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting on December 16.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has set the deadline for all schools and hospitals in urban areas go cashless in the next three months.

As of the end of last year, Vietnam had 800 urban areas whose rate of urbanization increased from nearly 24% in 1999 to 37% in 2017. Most are now facing traffic jams, water shortages, flooding, and environmental pollution. Developing smart cities will be the key to solving these problems.

Business France and the French Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City organised the Vietnam-France forum on smart and sustainable urban areas on July 4.
