A Vietnamese diplomat to the UN has called on the United States to put an immediate end to its embargo against Cuba and remove the Caribbean state from the list of state sponsors of terrorism as part of steps towards normalising relations between the two countries.

The US embargo against Cuba is a backward step which intensifies tension between the two countries, said the head of Vietnam’s mission at the United Nations.

A symposium discussing measures to mitigate losses caused by the US’s embargo on Cuba was held in Hanoi on October 26.
