Following impressive growth recorded in the first quarter, Vietnamese coffee exports are projected to continue increasing moving into the second quarter thanks to abundant supply sources and incentives from numerous free trade agreements (FTAs), according to industry insiders.

A Coffee Trade Fair kicked off in Buon Ma Thuot city in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on March 9, as part of the ongoing 7th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival.

Vietnam expects to export 1.7 million tonnes of coffee this year, earning about US$3.5 billion, said Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee – Cocoa Association (VICOFA) Luong Van Tu.

Vietnam exported 1.46 million tonnes of coffee worth US$2.77 billion in the first three quarters of 2018, an increase of 20.1% in volume and 0.4% in value compared to the same period last year.

The Embassy of Indonesia in Hanoi and the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association on February 6 hosted a workshop to boost Indonesia - Vietnam cooperation in the coffee sector.

Links between enterprises and coffee and pepper farmers need to be enhanced to improve the economic value and competitiveness of the two products.

The country’s coffee industry had a record setting year for 2015/16 (Oct/Sep) as a bumper crop led to exports of 27 million 60-kg bags— the highest volume ever recorded, reports the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association.

Some foreign cafe chains, with powerful financial capability and strong brands, have left Vietnam, but many Vietnamese chains have been prospering.
