Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong holds talks with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith during his visit to Vietnam in June 2021.

This represents a national event and a key activity of the Vietnam–Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.

Most notably, the event featured the participation Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, along with Laotian Vice President Bounthong Chitmany.

General Secretary Trong  was joined by Laotian VP Chitmany in co-chairing the occasion and delivering speeches to mark the anniversary.

The 60th anniversary of mutual ties and the 45th year since the singing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation is widely considered to be an important milestone of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation that exists between both sides.

This can be viewed as an opportunity in which both sides can review the great history of the solidarity alliance, as well as the help and support of the goodwill between the two Parties over the years. This is in addition to the two States’ and the two peoples’ past struggles for independence and the current cause of national development and defence of each nation.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Lao counterpart Khamphan Viphavan launch the Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam Friendship Solidarity Year 2022.

The activity will therefore contribute to disseminating information and educating all classes of people, especially young generations from the two countries, about the significance and importance of diplomatic relations.

This year, leaders of the two Parties and States launched the Year of Solidarity and Friendship on January 8 to mark the occasion of Prime Minister Khamphan Viphavan's official visit to Vietnam.

During the Year of Solidarity and Friendship, the two countries’ leaders visited each other and together attended celebrations held in Hanoi and Vientiane.

The 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 45th year of the singing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation have special significance for ties between the two countries as there is no relationship in the world as special and close as the relationship that exists between Vietnam and Laos.

This relationship was created by the blood, sweat, and effort of generations of leaders, cadres, soldiers, and citizens of the two countries, who together devoted themselves to the cause of revolution, democracy, national independence, and unification for their respective country.
