APEC 2017: Int'l media appreciate Vietnam’s role, contributions

The success of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week, with the highlight of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, continues to be the topic drawing international media’s attention, especially the leading role of Vietnam in the region’s most important economic event.

Russia’s Sputnik recently ran an article affirming that Vietnam is at the centre of APEC’s new economic structure.

The article emphasised that the successful organisation of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting consolidates Vietnam’s prestige in the international arena, as well as its position in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region at large.

As the host of the event, Vietnam drew the attention of the entire world. It also offered a chance for Vietnam to continue cooperation with its two biggest trade partners – the US and China – as well as with Japan, it noted.

Meanwhile, the Uzbekistani press analysed that APEC 2017 was the focus of Vietnam’s foreign policy this year and also the country’s most important contribution to the region.

The support and active participation of APEC economies and regional and international organisations in the APEC Year 2017 will be a lever that helps Vietnam develop its “soft power”. That Vietnam becomes the first APEC host to be invited to the G20 Summit this year shows the international community believes and highly values the country’s initiatives for cooperation outside the region.

APEC 2017 helps Vietnam popularise its national culture and promote the image of a dynamically developing country in the Asia-Pacific region, Uzbekistan’s press said, affirming not only APEC but also Vietnam are entering their new development phase.

The media of Chinese Taipei also appreciated the role of Vietnam as the APEC host, especially the thorough preparations on agenda building, and reception, security and logistics works.

Vietnam’s initiative to organise the first informal dialogue between leaders of APEC economies and ASEAN member states received the Chinese Taipei media’s applause.

The UK’s BBC channel also ran an article analysing what Vietnam has gained from hosting the APEC Year 2017.

It wrote that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting created a chance for Vietnam to reaffirm its multilateral diplomacy policy of boosting its relations with numerous important partners at the same time.

The Jerusalem Post newspaper of Israel quoted US President Donald Trump as saying that his Asia tour, including participation in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam, was a success.
