
In his speech, Nguyen Van Quang, secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, noted the Party, government and people of Da Nang are aware that every victory in the past struggle for national liberation and in the present socialist construction and defense of Vietnam is associated with valuable and sincere support of the Party, State and people of Laos.
Da Nang has so far signed nearly 40 MoUs with localities of Laos, enhanced the exchange of delegations between the two sides, and created favourable conditions for businesses to promote cooperation in trade, agriculture, health, education, culture and social affairs, especially in human resource development.
Between 2018-2022, Da Nang has spent nearly VND116 billion on cooperation programmes in Attapeu, Champasak, Sekong, Salavan and Savannakhet of Laos. It has granted scholarships to Lao students to study in the city, and received Lao officials for experience sharing in socio-economic development planning.
General Consul of Laos in Da Nang Souphanh Hadaoheuang said the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam has stood the test of time and developed positively over the past six decades. High-level visits helped increase strategic trust, forming the core of the special relationship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
Vietnam is one of the largest foreign investors in Laos, focusing on hydro-power generation, mining, agriculture, services, and other fields, he said.
Every year the Vietnamese government grants 1,100 scholarships to Lao students to study at Vietnamese schools and institutions.
At the function, the Da Nang leadership presented the Certificate of Merit to 15 collectives and two individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to promoting friendship and cooperation between Da Nang and Lao localities.
