Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam attends 16th Shangri-La Dialogue

PSNews-At the invitation of the Director General of the International Institute for Strategy Research (IISS), from June 2 to 4, Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security, participated in the 16th Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

The 16th Shangri-La Dialogue was attended by some 100 ministerial-level delegates, commanders-in-chief and senior officials at national defense, security and foreign affairs agencies from 30 regional countries.

The dialogue discussed the most important security issues in the region, including: The United States and Asia-Pacific security, maintaining regional security based on the principles of law, new challenges in regional crisis management, general awareness of regional security, and global threats and regional security.

In addition to plenary sessions, four in-depth panel discussions focused on: Nuclear threats in the area; new ways of security cooperation; the defense significance of newly developed technologies and measures to avoid conflicts at sea.

At the Dialogue, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam delivered a speech at the fourth special panel discussion on June 3 on “Practical measures to avoid conflicts at sea”.

In his speech, Vice Minister Bui Van Nam shared his views on possible measures to avoid conflicts in the context of maritime security in the Asia-Pacific region with complicated developments and potential conflicts.

In addition, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam is always ready to cooperate with other countries to maintain a peaceful and stable environment in the region on the basis of international law.

On the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue, Vice Minister Bui Van Nam held separate bilateral meetings with Mr. Desmond Lee, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development, Vice Chairman of Singapore’s Lower House.

The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore and agreed to intensify cooperation in the fields of prevention and combat of transnational crime, hi-tech crime, economic and drug-related crimes.
