Deputy PM pushes for strong labour cooperation between Vietnam and Laos

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on November 30 received Baykham Khattiya, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of Laos, who was in Vietnam for a special meeting on labour, social welfare and human resource development between the two countries.

Dam noted that the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Laos have over the years developed comprehensively in all fields, from politics, diplomacy, defence – security to economy, education, human resource development, health care, information and communication technology, environmental protection, and science – technology, contributing to the stability and development of each country.

He proposed the two labour ministries continue to outline strategic cooperation orientations, share experiences, and support each other in policymaking relating to the management of the labour market, employment, migrant workers, as well as other social security issues.

He also proposed that the two sides assist each other to improve contestants’ skills at ASEAN and global skills contests, enhance consultation and provide mutual support at regional and global forums.

Minister Baykham Khattiya for her part said despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic the labour ministries of the two countries have flexibly implemented cooperation programmes, achieving some positive results. The two sides she said continued to maintain cooperation in the fields of labour, employment, social security, human resource training and development, as well as equipment support and long-term training for universities and institutions.

The special ministerial conference on labour, social welfare and human resource development was held on November 29 in Quang Ninh province where the two sides evaluated the implementation of bilateral cooperation programmes, and shared experiences and policies on human resource development and social security of the two countries. The two sides signed a ministerial-level agreement in the field of human resource development.
