Former Ministers of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son and Truong Minh Tuan were prosecuted and put into custody on February 23 with the accusation of violating provisions on the public investment capital management and use and causing serious consequences.

The move was made at decisions and orders by the Ministry of Public Security and approved by the Supreme People’s Procuracy the same day. The ministry is currently accelerating the investigation into the case in line with the provisions of the law.

The prosecution of the case was started on July 10 last year.

Son has been disciplined by having his status as former Minister of Information and Communications of the 2011-2016 tenure erased. On October 6 last year, the Party Central Committee of the 12th tenure disciplined Son by stripping him of the status of a member of the Party Central Committee of the 11th tenure and the Secretary of the Party Committee of the ministry of the 2011-2016 tenure. Son was also held by the Politburo to bear the main responsibility for the wrongdoings of the Party Committee of the ministry in its 2011-2016 tenure.

Son’s wrongdoings and a number of other individuals are rated as very serious, causing a great loss of the State assets, negatively affecting the operation and equitisation of MobiFone telecommunications group as well as the prestige of the Party organisations and the ministry, causing discontent in the society.

As for Tuan, he has been removed from the post of the Minister of Information and Communications. On July 12 last year, the Politburo decided to discipline him by giving him a warning and relieving him from the position of the Secretary of the Party Committee of the ministry of the 2016-2021 tenure for his wrongdoings in leading, guiding and implementing the MobiFone’s project to buy 95 percent of AVG Company.

On July 18 last year, the Prime Minister signed a decision to discipline then Minister Tuan by giving him a warning. Later, on July 23, 2018, the President signed a decision to suspend him as the minister and on July 27 the same year, the Politburo issued a decision to put him in the position of deputy head of the Popularisation and Education Commission of the Party Central Committee.
