Germany makes comprehensive efforts to strengthen ties with Vietnam

At the press conference on the occasion of the 26th reunification day of Germany on September 28, German Ambassador Christian Berger said that, the cooperation between Germany and Vietnam is very plentiful and diverse. Germany Embassy in Hanoi would make more efforts to promote this relationship. 

Regarding political issues, Vietnam continues to be very important partner of Germany, German Ambassador stressed. Such relationship was also reflected through high-level visits of the two countries’ leaders this year such as the trip of Mr Thomas Oppermann, member of Germany cabinet, Chairman of Parliamentary delegation of the Social Democratic Party and the tour of the  highest representation of the Catholic Church, Cardinal Marx.

The trade exchange between Germany and Vietnam has reached 10.3 billion Euro in which Vietnam has exported goods to Germany worth up to 8 billion Euro. Germany has exported goods to Vietnam increase by 22%. Deputy Ambassador Wolfgang Manig confirmed: “It’s stated that trade exchange between Germany and Vietnam has achieved a new peak. Germany is Vietnam’s largest partner in European Union (EU)”.

The free trade agreement between EU and Vietnam, signed in February is considered a convenient foundation for the two countries’ cooperation in the future. This agreement would also simplify the trade links and facilitate connections between EU and Vietnam market. Deputy Ambassador Wolfgang Manig expressed his strong desire to set up a bilateral commerce chamber in Vietnam to deepen the Vietnam-Germany businessmen.

According to German Ambassador, the development cooperation between Germany and Vietnam is an important part of the relationship. Last year, Germany committed 220 million Euro with 2 years for development cooperation projects, mainly in vocational training, energy and environmental protection especially green growth. Besides, culture and education are curcial realms paid special attention by both nations.
