During his keynote speech at the event, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Party Committee, paid tribute to the revolutionary cause pushed by the late President, in addition to the great contributions made to national construction and defence.
He noted that President Ho Chi Minh embodies the true nature of patriotism, remains a great teacher of the Vietnamese Revolution to this day, and made outstanding contributions to the cause of national liberation globally.
“Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho, the country has made great achievements alongside the long-lasting historical value of the truth that is ‘Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom’,” Nhan stated. “His ideology, lifestyle, and morality have become invaluable parts of our heritage, the crystallisation of the essence of Vietnamese national culture, the benchmark for every cadre, Party member, and citizen to study and follow.”
Nhan stressed that Ho Chi Minh City is proud to be the location that President Ho departed from in order to take part in his journey around the world in his quest for national salvation. The southern metropolis is striving to ramp up development and become an exemplary city that promotes the name of the late great president.
“The Party and people of Ho Chi Minh City vow to unite and stand shoulder to shoulder with the entire nation to build it into a heroic, modern, and civilised city which is worth living in,” Nhan concluded.
To mark the occasion, the Municipal Party Committee honoured 147 collectives and 233 individuals that have excelled in the campaign “studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, morality and lifestyle” from 2019 to 2020.
