The Australian Governor-General also highly valued General Secretary Trong’s contributions to the bilateral relationship and affirmed the support and leadership shown by him in helping to boost the relationship between the two countries develop to what it is today.

Furthermore, Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick and President of the Senate of Australia Sue Lines extended condolences on July 19 to National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

In the telegram, the Australian parliamentary leaders said, “We highly valued the warmth and sincerity General Secretary Trong placed on Vietnam’s relationship with Australia. The most significant achievement in our bilateral relationship during his tenure was the elevation of our ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. General Secretary underlined the importance of strategic trust in building our partnership-good advice we will all continue to carry forward.”

They also recalled General Secretary Trong’s 2008 visit to Australia, which demonstrated the enduring value of exchanging high-level visits aimed at growing the friendship between the two nations. They therefore look forward to continuing this tradition when the President of the Senate leads an Australian parliamentary delegation to visit the nation later in the year.

Over the last weekend, the Communist Party of Australia also sent a telegram of condolences to the family, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, and the Vietnamese people on the passing of General Secretary Trong.

In the telegram, the Communist Party of Australia emphasised that as a comrade the General Secretary had been a significant leader of the Vietnamese Party, a leader who defended the Party and socialism in the nation against corruption and reactionary forces. His passing is therefore a great loss to the country and to the international communist movement.

In line with this, he will always be remembered by comrades internationally for his fight against corruption and as a defender of the interests of the Vietnamese people, as well as for upholding the noble values of socialism and communism.
