The 14th National Party Congress opens solemnly at the National Convention Center in Hanoi on January 20, 2026.

As soon as the opening session began, China’s Xinhua News Agency reported on the event in its breaking news section, providing updates on developments during the session.

Reuters continuously cited key statements by Vietnamese Party and State leaders delivered at the opening session, notably the opening address by State President Luong Cuong and the report of the 13th Party Central Committee on documents submitted to the 14th National Party Congress, presented by Party General Secretary To Lam.

Reuters highlighted major contents and new points in the draft documents submitted to the congress for consideration, discussion and decision.

According to Reuters, Party General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the 14th National Party Congress carries a historic responsibility to establish “launch-pad” decisions aimed at successfully carrying out the country’s two centennial strategic goals. Among the major targets he outlined was Vietnam’s goal of achieving an average gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 10% per year or higher during the 2026-2030 period, with GDP per capita reaching about US$8,500 by 2030.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) described the 14th National Party Congress as a major event for the Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 million people and a bright spot in the regional economy.

AFP focused on Party General Secretary To Lam’s remarks on maintaining and strengthening the Party’s leadership role, governing capacity and combat strength, affirming these as decisive factors in all victories. The report also highlighted the Party’s determination to continue building and rectifying the Party and political system, combating corruption, waste and negative practices, and promoting responsibility and the exemplary role of officials and Party members, particularly leaders.

Earlier, the online edition of Cuba’s Prensa Latina news agency launched a special section titled “14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam” to disseminate official information about the major event to international readers. The section features articles and images on developments at the congress and affirms the CPV’s role in guiding the nation into a new era for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization and happiness.

On official Lao media platforms, including Pasaxon newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Lao News Agency and Lao National Radio, extensive coverage was also given to the 14th National Party Congress.
