Japan is Vietnam’s leading strategic partner, says PM Chinh

Japan is the most important strategic partner of Vietnam, and that the Vietnam - Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership is developing strongly and comprehensively in all fields with high political trust, says Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

PM Chinh, who is currently on a visit to Japan, was speaking at a meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and former Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Toshihiro Nikai in Tokyo on November 23.

He thanked Suga and Nikai for lobbying the Japanese Government to urgently provide Vietnam with vaccines amid the recent complicated developments of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The PM highly appreciated the active and effective contributions by Suga and Nikai who is also chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and its members to promoting the two countries’ strategic partnership, especially in economic-trade-investment cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

He suggested that the two Japanese politicians continue making a practical contribution to enhancing cooperation between the two legislative bodies as well as exchanges between their parliamentarians groups and young leaders.

Both Suga Nikai recalled their deep impressions of the country and people of Vietnam, and welcomed Chinh’s proposal. Nikai affirmed that his alliance will work hard towards strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples, including young generations.

Following the meeting, PM Pham Minh Chinh and other delegates attended a ceremony to ship Japan’s citrus Unshu mandarin oranges to Vietnam.

Over the past time, the government leaders and relevant agencies of the two countries have worked toward promoting the export and import of specialty fruits such as Japanese Unshu mandarin oranges and Vietnamese litchis to each other’s markets.

The Japanese side is now considering granting a license to Vietnamese longans to enter its market in the 2022 crop year.
