Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh addresses the politico-military conference in Hanoi on July 5.

The military should proactively and promptly handle tactical and unexpected military and defence situations, he said.

He underlined the need for the military to improve its research and forecasting capacity, make recommendations to the Party and State, and flexibly and effectively handle international relations in a bid to prevent the risk of wars and conflicts early.

The PM also requested that military units improve their overall combat ability, rigidly maintain a regime of combat readiness, strictly manage the airspace, sea, border, inland, and cyberspace, and enhance training and exercises, in order to meet new combat conditions in high-tech warfare, and develop the art of people’s warfare in the modern era.

Furthermore, the military should seek to proactively respond to non-traditional security challenges, and effectively cope with various types of natural disasters, while identifying civil defence as an important, urgent and regular task of both the political system and the whole of society in peacetime, said the Government leader.

He asked that military units competently grasp and materialise Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s conclusions made at the recent conference of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam, emphasising the important role the Party Committee and the whole military play in accomplishing assigned tasks.

At the conference, the PM singled out the military for their significant contributions to the implementation of socio-economic development and national defence-security tasks, helping to maintain political stability, support post-pandemic recovery, stabilise social order and safety, and elevate the country’s profile globally.
