Minister of Public Security asks Central Highlands to improve ethnic groups’ lives

PSNews – The Steering Committee for the Central Highlands on January 10 held a conference to review its task performance in 2016 and to roll out key tasks for 2017 with the attendance of its head, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam.

The event also saw the participation of many other representatives of ministries, branches, central agencies and Central Highlands provinces.

Delivering a summarization report on the task performance in 2016, deputy head of the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands Dieu Kre said, despite a prolonged drought spell, which caused over 5,431 billion to local agriculture, instable export markets and reduced prices of agricultural products last year, the region with great efforts of local authorities, businesses and people still continued maintaining growth.

Addressing the conference, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam hailed the good outcomes gained by the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands in 2016.

He however pointed out many limitations and shortcomings in its leadership and direction, which affected the quality and efficiency of the region’s task performance in 2016. Senior Lieutenant General To Lam then assigned a number of key tasks to the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands in 2017, to better serve cultural and socio-economic development, defense and security of the region.

On the economic subject, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam urged the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands to closely coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to review socio-economic development plans and sectorial plans, to be adaptive to climate change.

He also asked localities to speed up the restructuring of public investment, State-owned enterprises and agricultural production in line with the strategy on agricultural restructuring and movement on building the new-style rural area model.

Local authorities and Party organizations were urged to fully grasp Conclusion No. 12-KL /TW of the 11th Politburo and Resolution 10- NQ/TW adopted by the 9th Politburo.

Local localities were also required to consolidate the grassroots-level political system, with a focus on improving the quality of Party cells and Party members in key areas.

On land issues, the region should effectively implement the policy on land support for needy households of ethnic minorities so as to help them improve their lives.

At the event, the Minister of Public Security also presented 12,000 Tet gifts, worth 7 billion VND, to needy residents in the Central Highlands and mountainous neighboring districts on the verge of the lunar New Year.
