Minister of Public Security General To Lam received US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, on September 5 in Hanoi.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is well aware of great challenges posed by climate change so Vietnam always pursues the policy of environmental protection and adaptability to climate change.

Overview of the meeting.

Following the policy of the State of Vietnam, all agencies, organizations, businesses and people have deployed detailed plans and measures to minimize the aftermath of climate change over the past years.

After the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Vietnam has shown its strong commitments to combating climate change and taking very specific steps to drastically implement its commitments, especially the goal of bringing net emissions to "zero" by 2050.

 Minister To Lam also underscored that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has implemented synchronous approaches to ensure security and order, and resolutely fight types of environmental crime and other violations of the law on environment.

The ministry regularly directs relevant agencies and units to proactively grasp, assess and forecast the situation regarding response to climate change and environmental protection.

To further realize important global goals in responding to climate change, Minister To Lam suggested the US side increase exchange of experience, technology transfer, investment in projects on clean energy in Vietnam. 

It is necessary for both sides to strengthen cooperation in responding to climate change, ensuring environmental security and controlling environmental crime to facilitate socio-economic development in each country and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Partnership in 2023.

The host also proposed the US side to further support Vietnam in implementing programs on environmental protection and climate change adaptability and green, clean energy development.

Thanking Minister To Lam for the meeting, Special Envoy John Kerry affirmed that the bilateral relations between the US and Vietnam are on a good track of development. 

Emphasizing the important role of the effort to respond to climate change in ensuring environmental security and energy security, Special Envoy John Kerry affirmed that the United States will strengthen exchange of information and practical experience, and promote cooperation with Vietnam in the coming time to realize the big goals set by the leaders of the two countries at COP 26.
