The opinions and petitions were summed up in a draft report to be submitted to the NA’s 5th session, which was discussed at the NA Standing Committee on May 15 during its 24th session.

The draft report said voters and people across the country approved the drastic and creative measures undertaken by the Government and Prime Minister in managing socio-economic development. They hailed the positive and comprehensive changes across the fields in the first months of this year.

The voters and people continued to have high expectations for the political will and strong actions of the Party and the State in the fight against corruption and wastefulness, while acknowledging the specific and noteworthy outcomes so far. Many serious and complicated corruption cases and economic crimes have been handled in a strict and transparent manner, even when they involved incumbent and former high-ranking officials.

However, the report noted that many cases only received attention and were handled with the drastic guidance of the Party leader, the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption and the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission. Many sectors and local authorities have not made substantive efforts in the fight.

Therefore, voters and the people called on the Party and the State to push forward with the battle against corruption and wastefulness at all levels.

Other issues that attracted public concern included social evils, serious crimes, cyber security and traffic accidents. Many opinions expressed anger at the law violations of some officials, including high-ranking ones, of the public security force.

The NA Standing Committee also heard a report of the Ombudsman Committee on the handling of opinions and petitions before and after the 4th session of the NA.

Head of the Ombudsman Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai said among 1,993 voters’ petitions sent to the Government, ministries and ministerial agencies, 1,474 (73.96 percent) received responses in the form of information provision; 162 petitions were solved and 357 are being processed.

NA Standing Committee members noted remarkable improvements in the settlement of issues raised by voters. A number of ministers spent time to instruct the handling of received petitions, resulting in the thorough settlement of many petitions. Meanwhile, the ministries and sectors have built roadmaps to address 83.5 percent of unsolved questions, which the Standing Committee hailed as a great effort, demonstrating the resolve of the Government, ministries and sectors in removing obstacles and facilitating daily activities, production and business.

Citing the fact that 1,474 (73.96 percent) of petitions were addressed in the form of information provision, Chairman of the Ethnic Council Ha Ngoc Chien said the people lack information on the Party and State policies, guidelines and laws. He said the popularization of legal information should be promoted in the time to come.
