Within the framework of its 8th plenary session, deputies of the National Assembly (NA) heard the Government’s report on crime and law violation prevention and control in 2024, on the morning of November 26th, 2024.

Overview of the session.

Under the authority of the Prime Minister, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang delivered the report at the session.

Minister Luong Tam Quang released that the law enforcement forces continued to attach much attention to the fight against crime while taking both social and professional approaches to prevent crime.

Thanks to the effort of the police force as well as relevant forces, the rates of crime and law violations have basically reached the targets set by the National Assembly.

Even several results have exceeded the set plan.

The Minister revealed that corruption, smuggling and economic crime had become complicated in various sectors and localities.

According to the minister, the number of corruption cases discovered and prosecuted increased by 20.55%, the number of smuggling cases increased by 8.25%, and the number of economic cases slightly decreased by 2.4%.

In addition, high-tech crime tended to increase with several new methods and tricks. To deal with this type of crime, competent authorities have blocked over 23,500 websites and social media accounts because of their law violations, and the police have investigated 1,521 cases and arrested 658 suspects with acts of law violation in the fields of information technology and telecommunications.

Regarding the fight against drug-related crime, the Minister revealed that counter-narcotics forces had dismantled large-scale transnational drug trafficking groups as well as eliminated domestic drug hotbeds. In 2024, the number of drug-related criminal cases detected and handled increased by 2.49%.

Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that the security situation in the region and the world is forecast to see many complicated developments in 2025.

To improve the efficacy of crime and law violation prevention and control, the Minister stressed the need to enhance the quality of grasping, analyzing and forecasting the situation, provide strategic advice early and from afar as well as proactively take preventive measures to control crime in a sustainable manner, contributing to reaching all set targets.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also requested the Public Security Forces to strongly and resolutely suppress all types of crime, enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of state management of security and order, as well as accelerate the digital transformation process and provision of online public services.

Finally, the Minister underlined that the Public Security Forces should focus on effectively implementing Resolution No. 12 by the Politburo and its component projects while paying due attention to promoting scientific research and technological application in support of crime prevention and control.
