Party chief’s Laos visit helps push time-honoured relations: official

The visit to Laos from November 24-26 by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recorded remarkable outcomes, especially consensuses reached by the two nations’ leader on cooperative orientations, policies and measures to promote collaboration between the two Parties and States in the coming time, a Vietnamese senior official has said.

Talking the press after the Party chief’s trip, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan said this was the first overseas trip by the Party chief since his reelection at the 12th Party Congress, which was made at a time when the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party have entered a new term of office after their respective Party Congresses earlier this year.

The visit showed that Vietnamese Party and State especially treasure the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship and special solidarity, he stated.

During talks and meetings, the two sides affirmed that the Vietnam-Laos time-honoured relationship is an invaluable asset for both nations, and an important element  for victory in the countries’struggles for independence and freeform in the past as well as in national construction, development and defence at present. 

During the visit, the two sides discussed plans to expand comprehensive cooperation across fields, especially in the economy, infrastructure development, energy and tourism. 

They also agreed to foster coordination and support each other in building Party and political system, enhance theoretical exchange and experience sharing in management, Quan said. 

He added that the two sides signed seven cooperation  documents on the occasion of the visit.

According to Quan, orientations, policies and measures to boost cooperation agreed during the visit will pave the way and create momentum for stronger cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples, thus achieving fruitful results in the time ahead. 

The two sides’ determination to solve difficulties and boost links across fields will help strongly foster trade and investment cooperation, he noted. 

During his stay, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a meeting with 1,800 lecturers and students of the National University of Laos, during which he shared his thinking and and orientations on the Vietnam-Laos relations, Quan said. 

The Party chief expressed his hope the two countries’ young generations will be a powerful pioneer force and high-quality human resources to serve each country’ development and contribute to promoting the bilateral relations, Quan added.
