General Secretary and President Trong, who was on an official visit to Laos, informed his host about the outcomes of his talks and meetings with the country’s top leaders, expressing his delight at the continuous development of bilateral ties.

He noted that Vietnam-Laos relations are exemplary, faithful and disinterested ones hard to be found in the world. Amid a complicated context with mixed chances and challenges, the maintenance and promotion of their special relationship are essential and match both countries’ development.

In the development of each side and the enhancement of bilateral links, it is necessary to learn from experience of former leaders, including former Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone, so as to unceasingly consolidate these rare relations.

For his part, Sayasone emphasised that the time-tested Laos-Vietnam relations have been increasingly strengthened. The friendship between the two countries’ people is extremely profound and inseparable, and the solidification of that special solidarity is vital for both nations, he noted.

He expressed his hope that the two countries will continue training incumbent and future cadres, increase experience sharing and boost mutual understanding between their people, especially younger generations.

Also on February 24, Party General Secretary and President Trong visited the construction site of the building of the Lao National Assembly – a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State and people.

Its construction began on November 1, 2017, and the building is expected to be inaugurated in late 2020.

The Vietnamese leader asked the investor – the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam – and contractors to make utmost efforts with the highest sense of responsibility so as to build the building with the highest quality, helping it become a symbol of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The same day, Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting leader of Vietnam and his entourage.
