Party General Secretary, State President hosts welcome ceremony for RoK President

PSNews - General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and State President To Lam and his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly presided over an official welcome ceremony in Ha Noi on April 22 for President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Lee Jae Myung and his spouse Kim Hae Kyung, who are on a state visit to Viet Nam.

​The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace with the attendance of senior officials from central agencies, ministries, and Hanoi authorities. 

​The state visit by President Lee Jae Myung from April 21 to 24 takes place at a time when Viet Nam–RoK relations are at their strongest ever, and is expected to open up a new phase of development with long-term strategic orientations for bilateral cooperation.

In the sound of welcoming music, General Secretary and State President To Lam and President Lee Jae Myung advanced to the podium of honor. The military band sang the national anthems of the two countries, and 21 salvos of cannons were fired from Thang Long Imperial Citadel during the welcoming ceremony.

Vietnam and RoK established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992. In December 2022, the two countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. RoK is currently the largest foreign direct investor (FDI) in Vietnam, with more than 10,400 projects and total registered capital of nearly 99 billion USD. It is also a leading partner in official development assistance (ODA), labor, tourism, and trade. Conversely, Vietnam is RoK’s largest economic partner within ASEAN.

Following the welcome ceremony, General Secretary and State President To Lam will host a restricted meeting with President Lee Jae Myung, before leading their respective high-level delegations in official talks. The two sides are scheduled to review the outcomes of past cooperation and discussed directions for future collaboration. The leaders are also scheduled to witness the signing of cooperation agreements and meet with the press.
