At the meeting, General Secretary Trong congratulated Hu on being re-elected as a member of CPC Politburo and re-appointed as Vice Premier of China’s State Council, sharing his hope that Hu will continue to contribute to the growth of ties between the two parties and countries.

He lauded the positive progress in the relations of the two parties over the past years, especially the increase in high-level meetings, as well as exchange between sectors, localities, and youngsters of both sides.

Bilateral affiliation in trade, investment, and tourism has also developed, he said, proposing that the two sides continue strengthening high-level meetings, promoting the efficiency of existing mechanisms, and effectively implementing the common perceptions reached by senior leaders of the two parties and countries. This includes the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of issues at sea, thus working together to maintain peace and stability at sea, as well as managing differences and avoiding actions that would complicate the situation.

For his part, Hu congratulated Vietnam on its successful hosting the WEF ASEAN, as well as the achievements that Vietnam has gained under the leadership of the CPV.

He affirmed that the Party, State, and people of China attach much importance to the relations with Vietnam and are willing to work with the Vietnamese side to further bolster the bilateral comprehensive cooperative strategic partnership between the two countries and realise the common perceptions of both sides.

China is ready to enhance its economic partnership with Vietnam, while importing more goods from Vietnam, he said.

Hu proposed that in the future, the two countries should continue strengthening high-level exchanges and meetings, as well as people-to-people contacts – especially among the youth, thus reinforcing political trust; promoting strategic connections; and fostering cooperation between ministries, sectors, and localities for the stable and healthy development of the partnership between the two parties and countries.
