PM: Developing Binh Thuan for green, sustainable economy

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lauded orientations to the development of the southern coastal province of Binh Thuan for the sake of a green, clean and sustainable economy during a local investment promotion conference on April 19.

In his speech to over 240 local and foreign businesses and investors, he said the province’s progresses in infrastructure, export-import, vocational training, and investment climate have attracted more businesses and investors to the locality.

On the locality’s development vision, the PM suggested improving the quality of planning, considering it a crucial condition for sustainable development.

Sectoral, regional and key product planning should not be contradictory and harmful to each other, with a focus being given to strengthening coordination with southern economic zone and adjacent provinces, he added.

Affirming the Party and State’s policy of continuing to socialise resources for development, especially in socio-economic infrastructure, the leader asked the province to come up with appropriate measures to execute the policy, mostly in the public-private partnership model.

He revealed that the government will promptly embark on several large-scale infrastructure projects in Binh Thuan, such as highway, coastal road, and the Phan Thiet airport.

Commenting on local investment promotion, he proposed focusing on fields of strength such as wind and solar energy, tourism, organic and high-tech agriculture, and processing industry.

On the occasion, Binh Thuan was asked to improve workforce training and become one of the top 20 localities nationwide in terms of administrative reform index.

Talking with investors, he urged them to devise long-term and sustainable strategies while doing business in the province as well as heed environment protection at the same time.

At the event, investment licenses were presented to 14 projects worth a total of VND43 trillion (US$1.86 billion) and a memorandum of understanding on investment in 20 projects worth more than VND83 trillion (US$3.6 billion) was signed.

Endowed with sunny and windy climate, Binh Thuan is well-positioned to develop agro-forestry-fisheries, renewable energy, green tourism, particularly sea sports and mining. A farming area of 27,000ha of dragon fruit with an annual output of over 600,000 tonnes put the province in the list of top localities nationwide in terms of dragon fruit cultivation.

Thanks to its 192km coastline, Binh Thuan is also one of the four largest fishing grounds in the country with a yearly seafood production of more than 200,000 tonnes.

Notably, it holds a titanium reserve amounting to 600 million tonnes, or upwards 92 percent of the country’s total.

The resort capital “Mui Ne – Hon Rom” and other well-known destinations welcome more than 4.5 million tourists each year, nearly 450,000 of them are foreigners.

So far, 1,281 domestic and foreign investors have poured in excess of VND230 trillion (US$10 billion) in the province, US$3.68 billion of which came from 113 projects from 24 countries and territories worldwide.
