On behalf of the Vietnamese Government and people, PM Phuc again extended his profound sympathy to the Lao Party, Government and people for severe losses caused by the dam collapse in Attapeu province.

He informed the guest that he had immediately made a phone call to his Lao counterpart Thoonglun Sisulith to talk about the incident, and affirmed that Vietnam is willing to help Laos recover production and soon stabilise the lives of people in the affected area.

The Vietnamese Government decided to provide 200,000 USD as relief aid for the Lao government to help the country in the aftermath of the collapse, he said, adding that he had directed the State Committee for Incidents and Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related offices to study and propose measures to assist the Lao side.

On behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, the Lao Deputy PM expressed his gratitude for the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their sympathy and support following the largest ever incident which has caused serious impact on locals’ lives and the country’s socio-economic development. 

The Lao leader also informed PM Phuc of the outcomes of his working session with the Vietnamese Inspector General, confirming that the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam has provided assistance for the Lao side in all fields, especially in training and improving the capacity of Lao inspectors.

Regarding Laos’ socio-economic development situation in the first months of 2018, Chitmany shared the Lao Government is working to solve difficulties for the business community, while stepping up investment promotion and facilitating investment of foreign firms, including those from Vietnam.

PM Phuc stressed that the Vietnamese Government encourages and facilitates cooperation between the two inspectorate agencies in inspection activities, the settlement of denunciations and complaints, and corruption prevention, including the training of Lao inspectors.

He affirmed the Vietnamese Party and Government attach importance to inspection work, settlement of denunciations and complaints, and prevention of corruption and wastefulness, with the Government Inspectorate holding important role.

He expressed his hope that the two agencies will intensify bilateral cooperation to increase the efficiency of inspection work, thus contributing more to the two countries’ special solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
