PM urges renovation of defense and security industry development

PSNews - Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a meeting of the State Steering Committee for the Building and Development of the Defense and Security Industry on September 20.

Delegates at the meeting evaluated the results of the leadership and direction on the building and development of the defense and security industry over the past time and planned tasks for the coming time.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that in the context of fast changing international and regional situations, the Government, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) have over the past time always paid much attention to the direction and development of the defense and security industry.

The capability of manufacturing and repairing weapons and equipment of the industry has significantly developed, creating breakthroughs, contributing to raising the national defense and security capacity.

In the coming years, given the rapid change of the world and the region and Industry 4.0, more stress is laid on the building and development of the defense and security industry.

The PM also directed that there must be renovation in the way of thinking and devicing solutions and measures to perform the building and development of the industry. It is necessary to apply scientific and technological advances to raising the capacity of doing research, designing, manufacturing, repairing, improving and modernizing high-tech weapons and specialized technical equipment and supporting tools. The defense and security products must be competitive and meet the export requirements on the basis of mastering the designs and technology and increasing the localization rate, contributing to the modernization of the People’s Army and People’s Police forces.

At the same time, the PM also directed the members of the steering committee, relevant ministries and sectors to promote their roles, responsibilities, interest and close coordination, creating favorable conditions for speeding up the implementation of programs and plans to successfully reach the objectives and fulfill tasks under the Politburo’s direction on stepping up the development of the defense and security industry, meeting the requirements of national construction and defense in the new period.
