Power of Non-Aligned Movements depends on members’ common voice

On September 17th (Venezuela’s time), after the opening ceremony, participants of Non-Aligned Movement Summit start the first discussion.

The Non-Aligned Movement only reach its full efficiency when all members find common voices and cooperate on the basis of solidarity, unity and shared principles and targets, said Mr. Phạm Bình Minh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Addressing at the event, the Vietnamese Deputy P.M said throughout its 55 years of development, the Non-Aligned Movement has proactively contributed to the fight for peace and national independence as well as development in various countries.

The international and regional situations have experienced various complicated developments, including challenges related to peace, security, terrorism, climate change, environmental degradation, etc. which no individual nation can cope with alone.

Moreover, there exists lacks of respect for international laws, intervention, tension, inequality in trade, finance relations, risks of being lagged behind and unilateralism, etc.

He also suggested Movement focus on strengthening unity, uphold the founding principles, including the peaceful settlement for disputes in accordance with the international laws, implement the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the Paris agreement on climate change, promote South-South tripartite, inter-regional, sub-regional cooperation, ensuring the global governance mechanisms on the basis of democratic and fairer principles, with the involvement of member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh dignify the efforts in building the ASEAN community, especially in the promotion of peace, security, stability, development and settlement of complicated challenges in the region, including issue related to the East Sea (South China Sea). Deputy Prime Minister called on the parties to restrain, resolve disputes thru peaceful means, in accordance with the international laws, including the 1982United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, respecting the process diplomatic and legal, to implement the Declaration on the conduct of parties in the East Sea (DOC), soon to complete the Code of conduct of parties in the East Sea (COC).

Also at the meeting, the ASEAN countries have agreed to ask the Conference to note the new developments in Southeast Asia, including the establishment of the ASEAN Community, expressed concern over the recent developments in the East Sea. The ASEAN countries proposed ti resolve disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, the 1982UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, respecting the legal and diplomatic process, ensure the implementation of the DOC, soon towards COC.
