President applauds Ambassador’s contributions to boosting Vietnam-UAE ties

Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has hailed Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri’s contributions to strengthening the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception on November 3 in Hanoi for Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri who came to bid farewell before ending his working term in Vietnam.

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office in Vietnam, adding that Vietnam appreciates the important role of the UAE in the region and at multilateral forums.

UAE Ambassador Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri thanked leaders of Vietnamese ministries and agencies for supporting him during his tenure.

The ambassador said that right after the COVID-19 pandemic, the relationship between the two countries has seen positive changes, especially in investment and trade cooperation. He affirmed that when he returned home, regardless of his position, he will always try his best to act as a bridge promoting bilateral relations.

The Vietnamese State leader expressed his satisfaction at the positive developments in the two countries' relations in a multitude of fields. The UAE is one of Vietnam's leading economic, trade and investment partners in the Middle East, with last year’s trade turnover of US$ 5.3 billion, up 21% on year.

In order to ramp up cooperation between the two countries, the President suggested the two sides carry out a score measures such as increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, boosting closer coordination in organizing political economic and cultural activities towards the 30th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations in 2023, and offering mutual support at international and regional forums and organizations.

The President also asked the UAE to support Vietnam to soon complete procedures to become a dialogue partner of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), intensify the exchange of business delegations, and encourage activities such as fairs, exhibitions and business forums.

This should be done along with accelerating the early establishment of the Vietnam - UAE Business Council, and studying the possibility of starting bilateral FTA negotiations in the time ahead.

On this occasion, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc cordially invited the President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit Vietnam soon.
