President hosts Japan's Kyodo News President

On April 12, President Tran Dai Quang hosted a reception for Kyodo News President and Editor-in-Chief Masaki Fukuyama in Hanoi during which he hailed expaneded cooperation between Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Japan’s Kyodo News over recent years.

The State leader also praised significant progresses in bilateral political and diplomatic ties over the past 44 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973.

He urged VNA and Kyodo News to further promote each country’s culture, business environment and people, contributing to deepening mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.

He underlined the need for both media agencies to continue providing timely, comprehensive and objective coverage of achievements in Vietnam-Japan ties to elevate the bilateral extensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

On the APEC Year 2017 with nearly 200 meetings and the 25th APEC High-level Week to be held in Da Nang, the host said it enables the two news agencies to coordinate in news coverage to contribute to the success of such events.

He told his guest that Vietnam is fine-tuning mechanisms and administrative procedures, improving competitiveness and business climate, and prioritizing industrialisation and modernisation. Vietnam is ready to provide all possible support for foreign enterprises, including those from Japan to do long-term business here, he added.

Amid the alarming trade protectionism trend, Vietnam supports global trade liberalisation, he said, adding that countries need to speed up the negotiations and signing of bilateral free trade agreements to enhance economic, trade and investment links.

On regional and global issues of shared concern,Vietnamese and Japanese leaders stressed the need to work closely together at multilateral forums to maintain an environment of peace.

Fukuyama in turn briefed the host of the outcomes of collaboration between VNA and Kyodo News over the past years.

He said Kyodo News holds a responsibility for presenting a full and accurate coverage of Vietnam, its people, culture and business climate as the Japanese people as well as major corporations, groups and local companies are more interested in business opportunities in Vietnam.
