President hosts WB Country Director, outgoing Timor Leste Ambassador

On December 15, President Tran Dai Quang received World Bank (WB) Country Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione and outgoing Timor Leste Ambassador Jorge Trindade De Camoes in Hanoi.

At the reception for the WB official, the Vietnamese State leader asked the World Bank to provide resources to help Vietnam realize the tasks set out in the documents of the 12th National Party Congress. 

He urged the World Bank to work hand in hand with relevant Vietnamese agencies to develop the Vietnam-World Bank National Partnership Framework in relevance to strategic orientations set out at the 12th National Party Congress and the World Bank’s Vietnam Report 2035.

The President highlighted Vietnam’s key priorities, including strengthening macro-economic stability; economic restructuring in the fields of public investment, banking, State-owned enterprises and fiscal reform; public debt management; infrastructure upgrade; and climate change response. 

He also told his guest that he has directed competent agencies to accelerate negotiations, signing and approval of loan agreements with the WB.

Dione, in turn promised to boost effective cooperation between Vietnam and the WB, saying Vietnam’s success is of significance for the WB as the country is seen as a successful story during the national development process.

Meeting with the Timor Leste diplomat the same day, President Quang said Vietnam respects and wants to strengthen ties with Timor Leste. 

He suggested the two countries should intensify exchanges of delegations and people-to-people exchanges to deepen mutual understanding and expand cooperation. 

Sang asked Timor Leste to rapidly finalize procedures to make the bilateral trade agreement signed in 2013 operational, accelerate negotiations on bilateral investment protection agreement, and implement a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on rice trade covering the period 2015-2017. 

The President also called on Timor Leste to continue creating the best possible conditions for Viettel Group to effectively operate in the country.

Timor Leste’s Ambassador applauded the Vietnamese State and government for creating favorable conditions to boost people-to-people exchanges and encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Timor Leste.

He pledged his best efforts to act as a bridge for the further promotion of bilateral ties.

He took the occasion to convey to Presdent Tran Dai Quang an invitation to visit Timor Leste from President Taur Matan Ruak. The invitation was graciously accepted.
