The event opened with the theme of “strengthening parliamentary partnership for sustainable development and response to COVID-19 in the CLV Development Triangle Area” and aims to realise the shared interests and cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. This is for the cause of the common prosperity and solidarity of people in the region, as well as the promotion of traditional friendship and long-term solidarity among the three countries.

As part of his opening speech at the event, Kittisangahakbindit Khuon Sudary, second vice president of the NA of Cambodia, underlined the significance of co-operation in the CLV Development Triangle Area. This is particularly important to achieve the vision towards prosperity and co-operation for development, especially in region’s the economic recovery following the negative impact of COVID-19.

Furthermore, Vu Hai Ha, chairman of the Vietnamese NA’s Committee for External Relations, lauded Cambodian efforts in organising the conference, whilst showing support for the theme of the event.

As a means of carrying out the goals included in the conference’s theme, all parties should strive to exert greater efforts to implement their commitments for the comprehensive socio-economic development in the Development Triangle Area in a sustainable manner. This should be done while taking effective measures in order to deal with the current complicated pandemic developments as a contribution to promoting the traditional friendship and solidarity among the three countries, he said.

At the sessions held as part of the occasion, participants discussed a report regarding the implementation of the development plan and measures aimed at dealing with the COVID-19 crisis in the CLV Development Triangle Area. This is along with a report relating to the outcomes of the supervision activities of the three committees over the Development Triangle Area.

Moving forward, they are scheduled to adopt a joint statement before concluding the event.
