Romania donates 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam

During the talks, the Romanian President congratulated his Vietnamese counterpart on being elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and said he treasures the 70-year friendship between the two nations and spoke highly of positive growth in the bilateral ties over the past time, affirming that Vietnam is an important partner of Romania in Asia-Pacific.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sincerely thanked the President of Romania for the good wishes as well as the warm and enthusiastic reception that the President and Romanian Government gave the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation during the official visit in April 2019 when he served as the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated that Romania actively supported the signing of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in June 2019 as well as Romania being one of the first three EU member states to ratify the EVIPA. He noted with pleasure that the agreements have fostered economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed various measures to expand and deepen the bilateral relations, and agreed to maintain and promote exchange mechanisms and cooperation in some prioritized fields such as economy-trade, education-training and labor, among others.

The Romanian President expressed his impression on the results that Vietnam has achieved in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, affirmed that Romania is willing to stand with Vietnam in efforts to combat the pandemic. On the foundation of the two countries’ solid friendship, the Romanian Government has decided to present 100,000 doses of COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam, and consider the reselling of another amount of the vaccine to the country in the coming time, he added.

President Phuc expressed his gratitude to the sentiments and prompt support of the Romanian President and people give to Vietnam, affirming that the donated vaccine will greatly contribute to the country’s fight against COVID-19.
