State President welcomes Mozambique Assembly leader

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on June 22 received President of the Mozambican Assembly Esperanca Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias who is on an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

He welcomed the Mozambican leader’s visit which he said has significantly contributed to strengthening the relationship between the two legislatures, as well as the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

President Phuc congratulated Mozambique on being elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2023-2024 for the first time with a high number of votes, and believed the African nation would fulfill this responsibility well, making a positive contribution to peace, security, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Despite global difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mozambique has still maintained political stability, socio-economic development, and pandemic control while building a prosperous nation, elevating its role and position in the African region.

Vietnam attaches great importance to promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation with Mozambique, and considers it one of Vietnam’s key cooperation partners in Africa, said President Phuc.

He spoke highly of the results of talks and meetings between the Mozambican legislator and Vietnamese officials during her visit, and suggested both sides increase the exchange of visits at all levels and through various channels.

The State President affirmed that Vietnam is willing to share its experience in operating at the United Nations Security Council with Mozambique, actively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and continue to coordinate closely with Mozambique at multilateral forums.

For her part, President Esperanca Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias affirmed that the Mozambique – Vietnam relations have been developing well in various fields, especially since the two countries established diplomatic relations.

She thanked Vietnam for its support and assistance during the COVID-19 fight, as well as for electing Mozambique as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. She expected that Vietnam that acted as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021 would share its experience to help Mozambique perform its similar role well.

Mozambique is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in many fields such as diplomacy, economy, culture, and education among others, she said.
