Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung told the press in Hanoi on June 29 that Vietnamese and Lao leaders shared the same view on the great significance of Thongloun Sisoulith’s official visit to Vietnam from June 28-29.

The visit has helped to deepen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, while advancing their bilateral cooperation, he continued.

This is the first Vietnam visit by Thongloun Sisoulith after taking up the top positions of the Lao Party and State, and also the first visit by a top foreign Party and State leader after the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The leaders compared notes on the situation in their respective countries, as well as in the region and the world, and briefed each other on development orientations, and foreign policies and guidelines of their countries.

They reiterated the significance of the bilateral relationship, which is an invaluable legacy and a valuable asset of both countries, and an especially rare relationship in the world, according to Trung.

For his part, head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Thongsavanh Phomvihane said the visit is a success and a milestone to further tighten and promote the bilateral ties.

It demonstrates the fine traditions as well as the dynamism of the Vietnam-Laos relations in the new period, he said.

To materialise the visit’s outcomes and promote the relations between the two Parties and States, the official suggested the two sides expand the cooperation between agencies in the political system and mass organisations at all levels of the two countries.

The two countries should build an action programme to concretise the joint statement and agreements reached by the two sides, and collaboration in organizing the implementation of those documents towards the set goal, he said.

The Lao Party and State always attach importance and give priorities to the Vietnam-Laos relationship, and will work to deepen it, making it match achievements in political and national defence cooperation, as wished by generations of the two countries’ Party and State leaders, he affirmed.

Echoing Trung’s view, the official said the relationship is an invaluable asset and a decisive factor to victories of the Vietnamese and Lao peoples, and Laos will continue to preserve and develop it.
