Previously, NASA’s Curiosity rover detected traces of methane on Mars, confirmed by the European Space Agency (ESA) Mars Express mission. The recently arrived to Mars Trace Gas Orbiter findings, however, showed no signs of the gas, puzzling scientists. This week, Curiosity again found methane at much higher levels then previously measured.

For years, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and other organisations have been scanning the skies for asteroids and comets travelling close to Earth, studying the possible hazards that such objects might entail. During special drills, they are now set to exercise what to do if the worst-case scenario becomes reality.

The European Space Agency (ESA) called for a coordinated global solution to ensure long-term sustainability of spaceflight as more than 750,000 pieces of dangerous debris are now orbiting the Earth.
