The People’s Court of Binh Dinh province has sentenced Le Quoc Binh from Quy Nhon city to six years in prison for the charges of conducting terrorist activities against the people’s administration, and illegal possessing military weapons.

Prison sentences ranging from 4-9 years have been proposed for two ex-leaders of the Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro for “abusing position and power to appropriate assets”.

Procurators on January 29 proposed imprisonment sentences ranging from 30 months to 15 years to five former officers of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) for their public property-related wrongdoings in Da Nang city and Ho Chi Minh City.

Police on January 20 launched criminal proceedings against Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for his suspected violations regarding the Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC – a subsidiary of this group.

The Central Military Court upheld a 10-year imprisonment sentence for Dinh Ngoc He – also known as “Ut troc”, former Deputy General Director of Thai Son Corporation – for “abusing position and power while performing official duties”, and another two years for “using falsified documents of agencies and organisations”, as heard at a court of appeals on November 1. 

The High-Level People’s Court in Hanoi lowered the prison sentence for Phan Van Anh Vu, who was found guilty of “deliberately disclosing state secrets”, from nine to eight years at an appeal trial on October 31.

The Hanoi high-level People’s Court on October 18 upheld the imprisonment sentence for a defendant found guilty of “trying to overthrow the people’s administration” at a first-instance trial two months ago. 

The High-level People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City on June 5 decided to uphold sentences against 14 out of 16 defendants who had appealed in the case involved in a terrorism plot targeting Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
