US Secretary of State visits Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security

PSNews - General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, on October 30 had a meeting with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo during his visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam warmly welcomed Secretary Pompeo, saying that Mr. Pompeo's visit to the Ministry of Public Security showed the good cooperation in the field of security between the US State Department and the Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, contributing to promoting bilateral ties between the two countries.

Secretary Pompeo's visit to Vietnam this time also contributed to deepening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership, the two countries' mutual trust, particularly when the two sides are celebrating 25 years of bilateral diplomatic ties, General To Lam emphasized.

Secretary Pompeo, for his part, thanked Minister To Lam for the warm reception. He said his visit was part of the activities in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of US-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

On the osscasion, Secretary Pompeo sent his deep condolences to the people in the Central province of Vietnam, who are suffering the aftermath of the recent natural disasters. Mr. Pompeo announced the US humanitarian assistance of US$ 2 million to Vietnam, supporting local efforts to deal with consequences of the ongoing severe flooding.

The Vietnamese Minister of Public Security highly appreciated the results of defense-security cooperation between the two countries in recent times. The Vietnamese side hopes to continue working losely and substantially with the US side in dealing with common regional security challenges.

The cooperation between Vietnam and the US in the field of security and law enforcement has  developed in both breadth and depth over the past time. The Ministry of Public Security has become an important partner of various US agencies, contributing to the overall Vietnam-US relationship and cooperation.
