At the meeting, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla briefed NAM members on the current situation in Cuba amid tightened blockade, embargo and unilateral coercive measures against the country.

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla expressed appreciation for the solidarity and valuable support extended by NAM member states to Cuba.

He also updated participants on the serious impacts of the blockade, embargo and coercive measures targeting energy supplies, as well as the imposition of secondary sanctions on third-country entities.

According to the Cuban FM, these measures are causing major difficulties for Cuba’s socio-economic development and people’s daily lives, particularly in essential sectors such as energy, food and healthcare. He also expressed concern over threats involving the use of force against Cuba.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, expressed deep sympathy for the challenges facing the Cuban people.

The ambassador reaffirmed Vietnam’s opposition to unilateral coercive measures against Cuba, describing them as actions contrary to fundamental principles of international law, including sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, freedom of international trade and navigation, and the right of each country to choose its own development path.

Vietnam also opposes any threat or use of force against Cuba, he stressed, saying dialogue and diplomacy are the only correct and sustainable way to settle differences and prevent rising tensions and instability that could affect regional and international peace and security.

The head of the Vietnamese mission underscored that solidarity with peoples facing pressure, imposition and injustice has always been a core value of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was founded on the principles of independence, sovereign equality, non-interference and peaceful coexistence.

The Vietnamese representative called on NAM member states to continue upholding solidarity and strongly oppose the blockade and embargo against Cuba, thereby contributing to protecting the Movement’s fundamental principles.

On the occasion, Ambassador Do Hung Viet highlighted the traditional friendship, trust and unwavering solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, while reaffirming that Vietnam always stands side by side with Cuba.

He also affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to further boosting cooperation and support in food security, agricultural development and renewable energy in order to help ease difficulties facing the Cuban people.
