Vietnam, Cambodia to bolster ties

Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin stressed that the visit by his Vietnamese counterpart had important significance as it proved strengthened solidarity and friendship between the two countries, two parliaments and the two people.

He made the remarks at his talks with Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in Phnom Penh on September 27, which formed part of the Vietnamese leader’s official visit to Cambodia.

He congratulated Ngan for being elected as the head of Vietnam’s NA.

He noted that during the last four NA terms, the friendly relations and co-operation between the two sides have been continuously consolidated and developed, expressing his trust that the relationship will be further developed.

The Cambodian NA Chairman suggested the two sides continue co-operating and sharing experience.
He thanked the Vietnamese NA for actively supporting and assisting in the training of human resources, providing equipment and many other types of help in order to improve the efficiency of the Cambodian NA’s operations.

The NA heads briefed each other on their respective countries’ economic situation and social activities. They agreed that, in the context of the increasingly complicated situation in the world and the region, the two countries should unite to continue strengthening and developing their traditional relationship.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction over the economic co-operation, trade and investment between the two countries at all levels.

So far, Vietnamese enterprises have invested in 182 projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$2.85 billion.

They agreed to continue promoting the role of supervising the implementation of agreements reached between the two governments and continue to share, support and consult with each other on international issues of mutual interest as well as to enhance close co-operation in inter-parliamentary forums and regional parliaments that both countries are members of.
